What is the difference between Signature Series, Pro Series and Experimental Series?

If you follow my HK Wax Center YouTube channel, then you will know that I always give my honest opinion on all types of wax/brands that I have used. Of course, it won't be any different with my own wax. When I first started this company I wanted to come out with  great wax that was cheaper than anyone else's (all these companies keep raising their prices).  Which I have successfully done with the Pro Series (Poseidon, Calypso and Medusa - all the same formulation, only difference is the color).

However, I discovered that we can actually make a wax that is far superior to all other waxes, except the ingredients cost more; our Signature Series (the 6 colors; fuchsia, aqua, clear, black, red & yellow are the same formulation, just different colors). So, that's why we ended up coming out with two wax formulations, one that is fantastic and works similar (I'd still argue better) to the major brand hard wax films (blue/pink, etc). However, if you want the absolute best of the best, then I would definitely pick the Signature Series (Sirena, Electra, Aurora, Hades, Ra and Helios).

The Raw Breakdown:

Signature Series: My first recommendation. Next Generation Technology, this formulation is a first of it's kind, unlike any other wax. If you want to lay 3-4 or 10 strips, get lunch, and then remove the strips without breaking, then you found your soulmate. SUPER ELASTIC & NEVER BREAKS.  Vegan Friendly, Allergen Free.  Allows incredibly thin strips so you should be using WAY less wax per service and end cost should be a net savings.

  • 100% Synthetic Resin, Hypoallergenic, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Next Generation Formulation, Ideal for Sensitive Skin
  • Sirena (fuchsia), Electra (aqua), Aurora (clear), Hades (black), Ra (red), Helios (Yellow)- formulation for these is the same, only difference is the color
  • Hypoallergenic -Allergen Free, doesn't contain Colophonium (Rosin/tree sap), ideal for sensitive skin.
  • Vegan Friendly -Zero animal or plant products or bi-products
  • Cruelty Free -Never tested on animals
  • Are you a "lay lay lay" waxer? This means you can lay multiple strips at a time before going back and removing them without any fear of it breaking. If so, this is the wax for you!
  • Super Elastic- Allows for Super Thin Strips Without Breaking, save $$$ by using half the wax compared to polymer blend waxes
  • Great For both Beginner Waxers and Seasoned Waxers-Take lunch and come back before you remove the strip, no problem
  • Gentle on the skin -less pain means a better client experience & increased repeat customers
  • **Micro Glitter Infused - just for fun!
  • Personally, I only use Signature Series or Experimental Series in my salon.

Pro Series: If you're a super fast waxer who likes to lay a strip and remove immediately (not lay multiple strips then remove) then this is for you.  Also if cost is a huge concern & you have trouble with change, again this is your wax. LOWEST COST PREMIUM HARD WAX AVAILABLE.  Compare to any premium major brand hard wax.  Fastest cool time.  Similar to every wax I've ever loved in the past, before I knew better this wax would have been my choice.

  • Polymer blend of natural rosin derivatives, waxes, and synthetic materials. Not made for sensitive skin and will break if left on the skin for too long.
  • Poseidon (deep purple), Medusa (deep pearl blue) and Calypso (emerald green)- formulation for these is the same, only difference is the color
  • Lowest Priced -Polymer Blend Hard Wax in the US *compare to any other major brand, same quality & lowest cost
  • Contains Colophonium (Rosin), a known allergen
  • Ideal for most skin types but not recommended for sensitive skin
  • Cruelty Free -Never tested on animals
  • Quick Cooling -Power Waxers Save Time & Money
  • Are you a "Strip & Rip" waxer: This means you lay one strip at a time and then remove immediately. If so, this is the wax for you!
  • NOT Elastic like Signatures Series or Experimental Series. It will break if left on the skin for too long.
  • **Micro Glitter Infused - just for fun!**

Experimental Series: Different from our other "Series" Experimental Series or X Series waxes are completely unique formulations. Magec is not just the World's First Glow in The Dark Hard Wax, but also a serious hair removal system! That's right, don't be fooled by the gimmicky glow when the lights go out because this wax is so much more.  Based on our Best in Class Signature Series, Magec is hyper elastic, hypoallergenic, vegan, cruelty free, and for the first time ever a MICA-Free Wax from Mermaid.  You asked for it and now you have a mica-less hard wax with a nearly colorless strip.  Apply this baby super thin and use HALF the wax you would with other polymer blend "film" waxes.

***BONUS - you can also mix the waxes if you want to add more elasticity to the Pro Series. It also turns the wax into a really pretty color :)

Why is my wax not removing hair?

Well, it could be a plethora of reasons. So, let’s break it down and find the reason or reasons!

  1. Prepping the area in the right way will drastically change the way the wax adheres to the hair! It is important to remove all makeup, dirt, sweat, oil or lotion from the skin before applying the wax.
  2. We cannot stress how important exfoliating between waxing appointments is. After waxing, the hair gets softer, finer and thinner. This means it is harder for the hair to push through the skin which is why exfoliating is so important. Exfoliating will get rid of the layer of dead skin on the surface so the hair can easily push through the skin.
  3. Using enough pressure when applying a wax strip is crucial to make sure the wax is getting as close to the root of the hair as possible. If you don’t use the proper pressure, the wax will cause the hair to snap instead of gripping the hair from the follicle.
  4. The first wax strips should be applied in the direction of the hair growth. These strips will get rid of the bulk of the hair -about 90% of the initial amount will be removed. We will then apply “clean up strips” which are applied in the opposite direction of the hair growth. This will get rid of the rest of the hair -you know, those stubborn little guys!
  5. The hair needs to be about the size of a grain of rice in order to be waxed. Depending on the customer, this means roughly 3-6 weeks of hair growth. If the hair is too short, the wax cannot suction cup the hair which will result in the hair breaking at the surface.

What is the best temperature for hard wax removal?

A specific temperature is not what you're looking for, but instead look at the consistency of the wax. It should move like honey or molasses. The correct hard wax temperature is a varied answer depending on the size of pot, amount of wax in pot, type of wax you're using (not all hard wax melts the same; ex synthetic vs organic), amount of wax you have on your stick.  The trick is "The Flip" -In time and with experience you need to pay attention to how your wax moves once you get it on your stick. Once the wax is on your stick using dexterity "flip" the stick or rotate it in your hand and watch how the wax moves. You should get the bulb of hot wax to stay on your stick for about 3 seconds before it starts to slowly fall. If it falls too quickly the wax is too hot!  If it fails to fall fast enough or not at all, it is too cool. This exact time & movement does vary with size of stick, amount of wax on your stick and (again) the type of wax you're using. Practice. Practice. Practice. ON YOURSELF so you don't burn your client.

Can I prevent my wax from breaking?

There couple be a couple reasons your wax is breaking upon removal. Making sure you have the correct thickness of your wax is extremely important. Our hard waxes can actually be applied thin, however make sure they are not too thin. Play around with it a little!  Also make sure you are making a “lip” at the end (where you pull the wax has a slightly thicker amount of wax) and the sides of your strip are clean. Having edges that are all frayed and not smooth and clean will result in the wax not coming off in one quick motion. Next, make sure you are not leaving the wax on the skin for too long! Our Signature Series can be left on the skin for a longer period of time compared to our Pro Series. Normally we recommend removal after 30-40 seconds on the skin. If the wax is still wet, then wait another 30 seconds until removal.

Do I have to use a wax warmer? Would a microwave work instead?

We do not recommend using a microwave to heat up the wax. This can be extremely dangerous since every microwave has different wattage which can cause severe burns to your skin. A stove will cause the wax to burn due to overheating. A wax warmer is the only way to ensure the wax reaches the correct temperature in a controlled and safe way.

Can I mix the different hard waxes?

Absolutely! All waxes are made so they can be mixed with one another. Keep in mind, our Signature Series is vegan friendly and allergen free, however our Pro Series is not. So if you mix the two waxes, it will no longer be vegan friendly and allergen free.
